is now considered THE place to be, the fastest growing neighborhood within the city. For the most part it encompasses the 78702 zip code; East of I35 from Hwy 71 up to about MLK. I love the energy and I really love the restaurants. It has great proximity to downtown. This is one of the most diverse areas of town. The area is pedestrian- and bike-friendly, with plenty of sidewalks and bike lanes. The majority of neighborhoods in East Central Austin developed in the early 1900’s, but now many of these homes which are on the market have recent updates reflecting designer touches and there are several modern condo options popping up as well. There are fabulous museums, boutique hotels and loads and loads of locally-owned small businesses to support. The East Side is known for drawing a heavily hipster crowd. There is plenty of “weird” to soak up here. There is a large section of East Austin called Mueller (pronounced Miller) where there has been a great deal of new construction and a huge live/work/play community is thriving there.
